The Committee for Artistic Research

The Swedish Research Council's Committee for Artistic Research supports practice-based research of the highest quality within artistic research. The Committee has seven researchers representing different art forms.

Responsible for allocating research funding

The Committee for Artistic Research decides which calls are to be made in the area of artistic research. They are also responsible for assessing and prioritising the applications that are submitted to the Swedish Research Council, and deciding which applications will be awarded.

Following up and evaluating research in the area

The Committee follows up, evaluates, and produces strategies for the research area, for example through research overviews. In this work, the Committee is assisted by both national and international experts. Each year the Committee also arranges a symposium on artistic research. The symposium is aimed at researchers and other actors within the arts.

Between the years 2004 and 2017, the Committee published a yearbook on artistic research. The purpose of the book was to provide information about the Committee's activities and the development of research in the area, both nationally and internationally.

Composition of the Committee

The Committee for Artistic Research has seven members. They represent different art forms and are active in artistic research or artistic development work. The Swedish Research Council appoints the chair and members based on proposals from relevant higher education institutions. The term of office is three years and members can be reelected for a further three years.

The Committee meets six times a year.
