The Swedish Research Council is responsible for a ten-year national research programme in viruses and pandemics. The research programme is part of the Government’s long-term strategy and action plan to counteract and reduce virus outbreaks and pandemics.

The purpose of the grant is to give newly qualified researchers with a doctoral degree from a Swedish university the opportunity to expand their networks and their competences by working abroad under secure employment conditions.

Three different bodies with differing perspectives on research infrastructure take part in the assessment of grant applications. It is the Council for Research Infrastructures (RFI) that makes the decision on which applications are awarded grants.

The Swedish Research Council assesses applications for research grants based on at least four assessment criteria, and using various grading scales.

Our operation is divided into five departments. We have three scientific councils, one council and five committees that decide on the allocation of research funds. The entire operation is headed by a board, which is appointed by higher education institutions and the Government.
