Open call for future flagships in EU’s program for Future and Emerging technologies

"Flagships" are 10-year large-scale multidisciplinary research initiatives built around a visionary unifying goal. The purpose of this call is to produce a proposal for a new flagship.

As a part of the new work programme for Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) in Horizon 2020, candidates for future flagships (so called preparatory actions) will be selected in the following areas:

  • ICT and Connected Society
    • Smart materials and Nanoscale Engineering
    • Robotics, Interfaces and Artificial Intelligence
    • ICT for Social Interaction and Culture
  • Health and Life Sciences
    • Disruptive technologies to Revolutionise Healthcare
    • Understanding Life by Exploring the Genome and the Cell
  • Energy, Environment and Climate change
    • Earth, Climate Change and Natural Resources
    • Radically new Energy Production, Conversion and Storage devices and systems

The flagships are 10-year large-scale multidisciplinary research initiatives built around a visionary unifying goal. The two ongoing FET-flagships in Horizon 2020 each have a budget of EUR 1 billion in consortia of around 100-150 partners:

This open call is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) of EUR 1 million for 12 months to fully develop the details of a candidate flagship. There is a two-stage evaluation where the deadline for stage 1 is February 20.

The proposal for the first stage should contain 20 pages describing the idea (what makes it a FET Flagship), scientific excellence and expected impact. The best proposals will be invited to turn in a more detailed proposal in stage 2. A maximum of two proposals will be granted funding in stage 2 within each area.

Deadline for stage 1 is 20 February, 2018.

More information about the call and on how to apply is available on the European Commission's websiteexternal link, opens in new window.
